The Workroom
Experienced Actors – For actors who are ready to develop their craft and challenge themselves with more advanced training.
Our courses run throughout the year and include:
- Class Footage – Footage is supplied regularly for feedback and personal review, helping you monitor your progress and development.
- Weekly Feedback – Regular feedback is an important part of an actor’s development, helping you understand your strengths and identify areas to work on.
- Acting is ‘Doing’ – No sitting around. We are up, working and performing from the start of each session.
- Acting Warm-Up Exercises – Exercises designed to bring you into the workroom, build focus and help the group connect before beginning the session.
- Acting Techniques – Our training combines established acting principles with practical exercises designed to develop confidence, imagination and truth in performance. The different techniques we teach all have one purpose: to help you become a more natural, versatile and believable actor.
- Improvisation – Improvisation helps you become more spontaneous, present and responsive in the moment, while having plenty of fun along the way. It is a great way to get out of your head, learn to play and trust your instincts.
- Strength Building – An individual development process focusing on the areas of your craft that need the most attention. Rather than simply repeating what comes naturally, actors are challenged to develop the areas they find more difficult. Through structured exercises, improvisation and scene work, these underdeveloped areas can become strengths, creating more confident, versatile and truthful performances.
- Script Work – Scripts are carefully chosen to suit the actors in the workroom. You will learn how to break down a script so that you fully understand what is happening, what your character wants and why they behave the way they do. We explore the information within the script, including relationships and circumstances, giving you the knowledge and confidence to make strong, informed choices when developing your character.
- Screen Acting – Learn how to deliver natural, truthful performances that work effectively on camera.
- Cold Reading – Learn how to perform confidently under pressure. Cold reading teaches you to trust your instincts while making clear acting choices. You will learn how to quickly understand a script, connect with the character and respond naturally in the moment, even when you have only just received the scene.
- Audition Preparation – Practical audition preparation designed to help you feel confident, comfortable and prepared when auditioning.
The Workroom is a space to learn, experiment and make mistakes.
The Extras
- Professional Representation – Opportunities for professional representation through The Actors Workroom.
- Spotlight Eligibility – After two years of attendance, you may become eligible to join the Spotlight directory.
- Self-Tape Taster Sessions – Bridging the gap between training and auditioning. Our ‘Taster Tapes’ use a variety of short scenes to help demonstrate your emotional range, strengths and individual casting niche.
Who Can Join the Monday Evening Classes?
